Fertilization
To keep your lawn looking superior all season United Property Maintenance recommends five applications of fertilizer each year.
March-April
22-3-9 cool season fertilizer
24-3-8 with pre-emergent
May-June
16-6-8 with or without broadleaf control
August-September
22-5-5
October-November
12-6-16
These numbers are called the NPK ratio. The three main ingredients in most fertilizers are (N) Nitrogen, (P) Phosphorus, and (K) potassium.
Nitrogen: greens plants quickly, encourages stems and leaves to grow
Phosphorus: critical for flowering, fruiting, seed formation, and root growth
Potassium: plays a role in disease resistance, root formation and photosynthesis
Pre-emergent: stops seeds from germinating and prevents weeds from establishing early in the season
Broadleaf control: kills most broadleaf weeds.
